MY TAKE ON THE PARK
St. Louis for approximately 40 years played in a cookie cutter
park that they made unique. I am thinking the Metrodome would work in St. Louis. That being said, unless you are a Cubs fan,
I really believe you will have a hard time finding something not to like about the new Busch Stadium. One question, why only
44,000 seats?
Some things have not changed with the new park, attending a Cardinal
game is an event shared with all fans wearing red. Red seats replaced by fans wearing red and all rooting for the Cardinals.
For a weekend game it is possible to have fans sitting around you from Indiana, Kentucky, and Kansas. The Cardinals draw from
a very wide area, keep this in mind if you think you will be heading to the ticket window on game night, chances are they
will be sold out.
The great thing about the Stadium is you can walk around the
whole lower deck, and in the upper deck you can walk out to find a place alone to enjoy the sunset over Missouri or enjoy
a view of the Interstate. The positive about the location is there is a lot of parking surrounding the park and the Interstates
right there after the game. There is also a metro stop right outside the park, I am unfamiliar with the metro map but I've
linked it below.
I have to say great things about the scoreboard here. The Cards
play in the NL Central and the out of town board gives the Central division some in depth coverage. Not only are the scores
present but the runners position on the diamond are as well. Not only is the board very informative, it is also very fast.
Something I noticed as soon as I walked into the park after my first view of the board, the whole game is closed captioned.
Every word mentioned in the park goes up on the board. Talk about thinking of everything.
The new Busch Stadium can only get better, the atmosphere around
the park will surely improve now that the old Busch Stadium has been cleared out. There will most likely be restaurants and
hotels for the Midwest's Cardinal fans to enjoy 81+ times a year.
I highly recommend a trip to see the Cardinals. Get out your
red shirt, pack a few pencils, of course if like so many St. Louis fans, you will also pack your own scorecard, (So great
to not be the only one in the park with a book.) and head out to Busch. If traveling from the hotel, the van driver will want
to talk baseball. If taking the train, the fans will want to talk baseball. If driving to the game, the local radio station
will be talking baseball. Busch Stadium is all about going to see baseball, it is really a great place to be.
